Tish Note - May 2021

May 24, 2021

Hey Amigos!

A little note to say "hi" and catch up a bit. A lot has happened since my December newsletter! Although sadly Covid is still causing much pain and havoc in some parts of the world, we are very lucky here in the U.S. since the vaccine is quickly improving our lives day by day. I was so happy to get my shots in March. Almost everyone in my social and family circles has gotten the vaccine too and it feels so good to be able to get together with people we love without masks and to hug one another. I finally felt I could safely board a plane a couple of weeks ago, (something I hadn’t done since January 2020) to go visit my son and his family in Seattle. I was so happy to see and hug everyone, including my new one year old grandbaby boy! I’m still wearing a mask in public places, such as the airport, the airplane, or when I’m out shopping, but it is so wonderful that we are turning the corner on Covid. I hope you have been able to get your vaccine and are enjoying your life and loved ones too.

Although I’m looking forward to playing live and traveling more soon, there are some things that I actually liked about being stuck at home. For one thing, home itself became a special place. I paid more attention to making it better. My husband and I did some remodeling, building and gardening. We took lots of walks around the neighborhood, and I worked on personal projects I had been putting off for “someday.” One definite improvement that came about during quarantine time was that I became a better cook! I got hooked on cooking shows! I’ve always enjoyed cooking, but I picked up so many new tricks and tips, and I got braver in trying new recipes – successfully! One thing I didn’t succeed in was sourdough. Luckily Lynn did, so as a team we did pretty well!

On to the working front now: Our trio, The Texicana Mamas (with Patricia Vonne and Stephanie Urbina-Jones) are going to resume our live music schedule soon. We’re kicking things off with a fun intimate backyard concert in Austin, TX, Friday June 11th, then an event in Kerrville, TX on Saturday June 12 called Music At The Mansion (at the Shriner College campus). If you are in the Austin/Hill Country area, we’d love to see you at one of these events. The backyard concert is limited seating so get your tickets soon! Tickets are available on via Eventbrite. Also, check out our music videos on our website thetexicanamamas.com and buy our debut CD while you’re there!

Tish Note - December 2020

Hi Friends,

Just a short note to mention a few cool things this week!

I want to share this story that was posted on Humans Of New York. I am very moved to know that my music was involved in this immigrant family's life. As songwriters, we send our music out into the world and never know where it is going to land. As a performer, I play these clubs and listening rooms and get tired of the road, and often don't feel that I make any difference in the world. Then I meet people who share their experience with me, sometimes quite emotionally, and I realize that I have done something. Whether it is two or ten people my music reaches. It's like that drop of water that makes those ripples bigger and bigger. I'm sure a lot of people who subscribe to Humans Of New York don't know who I am. What matters to me is that I made an impact on this one little girl and her family, and she grew up to be a beautiful, intelligent, compassionate, articulate woman, and that impact has returned to touch me. Humanity can be so beautiful.

On another note - I would LOVE if you would join me this Friday, December 4th at 5pm CST on Facebook where I will perform a Christmas Special from my backyard! I will be accompanied by Marvin Dykhuis on guitar and mandolin, Chip Dolan on piano and accordion, and Laura Mordecai on percussion. My husband and I just completed the building of a beautiful deck/stage that we hope to have concerts on in the future. What better christening than to break out the Christmas songs?! We won't have much of an audience here, but we will love to see y'all out there. Make a cup of egg nog or whatever is your happy hour cheer. Let's have some Holiday fun together! If you are not a Facebook subscriber, you can watch it here on mundotish.

Thanks so much for subscribing to my newsletter.

Wishing you much Holiday love and cheer,

Tish
