Tish's Most Valuable Players:

Troy Wells

Troy Wells has been a prominent guitar, mandolin, banjo player and vocalist in the country, bluegrass, and folk scenes, in Texas and beyond. Born near Lubbock in Abernathy, Texas, his music career started young, winning awards at bluegrass competitions while still in his teens. He joined my band in 1982 at the age of seventeen. He went on to play electric and acoustic guitar with the Dixie Chicks, then on to Branson, Missouri, where he backed up a variety of well known country artists, often playing two shows a day, seven days a week. With all this practice, he returned to Texas in 2004 and has been doing studio and club work between Dallas and Austin. Since 2005, he has accompanied me again on tours in the U.S. and in Europe, playing his exceptional picking licks and back-up vocals.
